Isle Royal is in Northern Michigan?

It is nice to see that some of the old growth indicators are returning. The
trees draped like that are signs that the temperate rain forest which had
covered most of the northern section of the US less that 200 years ago is
returning.

Usnea, a rather common Lichen only grows on the older trees and the forest
needs some good moisture for it to thrive.

A cloudy morning after evening dew might allow you to work your camera magic
and get all of what you see to be represented in your photograph.

40 years ago on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington state trees draped in
Lichen weren't too uncommon to see, but technology marched on and the old
forest are gone there too.

Funny, my great grandfather, an oxen driver, told of the clear cutting of N
Michigan, and his last job, purveying the NW territories for their total
board feet of available lumber (now Idaho, Wa. and Ore.) and I lived in the
even aged forest from the last explosions of Mt Rainier (early 1800's) and
have watched all those forests get cut down and try to regrow in my
lifetime. The isolation I grew up in is now housing tracts.
