Marcel Bloch was the owner of the Potez company (military airplanes
under the name Bloch and Potez) (the factory in Meaultes, Somme, that
Airbus just sold away was the one of the main Bloch-Potez factory)... He
was deported because he was jewish and an non collaborating industrial,
he survived (from his own word) because both the communist network
inside the camp, and the Germans organised things to take him out of the
most dangerous places... But still he changed name after the war for
commercial reasons (more French less Jewish)
Politically he was a right wing modernist (technologically modernist,
socially paternalist)...
French technology is quite a story in itself, the mirage, the concorde,
the focaflex and the DS ... or the Leduc airplane... all came from a
technological philosophy that often says "Pourquoi faire simple quand on
peut faire compliqué ?"... anyone who tried to renovate a DS will
understand my meaning.

Sorry, Dassault's real name was Marcel Bloch. You can easily understand
why he
was deported, and why he was put in command upon return. Anecdoticaly,
he is
said to have copied from memory the structure of the american hospital
plane
that brought him back, half dead, from german labor camp to Paris to
build a
new type of plane body immediately after recovering...
