But if you lose the _heating_ effect from the incandescant bulbs, your
heating bill will have risen by a similar amount.  OK, I accept that
electric heating by light bulb is not quite as efficient as burning oil or
gas, but all the 'waste' from TVs on standby, wall-warts left plugged in,
inefficient incandescant bulbs etc is contributing to heating my house and
saving on the heating fuel.
OK, it's not true 12 months a year, where I Iive perhaps October to May, but
I have no issue with leaving all sorts of appliances running during the
winter 'wasting' energy...
Am I wrong?

And can anyone point me to a life-cycle-analysis / recycling study comparing
1 CFB with all its components, to half-a-dozen classic bulbs of glass and
metal?
