Speaking of getting stupidlyly close, have you tried reverse
stacking of lenses (i.e. mounting a reversed 50mm on the front of 100mm
or 200mm lens)? These combos will give you 2:1 and 4:1 respectively, but
the working distance is VERY close. It's fun but only useful in a bench
setting.
