Thanks Moose for the very interesting and elegant experiment.  Any dandelions 
here are under 6  inches of the white stuff ;-(.
Also makes me thing that macro lenses that achieve magnification by shifting 
internal elements and not just extension  may have a slight advantage from a 
diffraction vantage point as the optical path is shorter.  Whether this 
hypothesis violates the "no free lunch" principle, I am not sure. Perhaps Dr. 
Focus would have an opinion as well.
