the front threads on mine also appear to be 84-85 mm, but the cap says 86mm.

I'm having as much fun cleaning this lens up as I had with my other old 
ones, this one wasn't used for nearly 20 years when he got it from an avid 
photographer, they sure don't look pristine, but the movement and all are 
just beautiful none the less. every time I think it is clean, I find more 
smears, but none the less, it is much sharper than any of my past non 4/3rds 
zoom lenses.

I think I'll now punish myself and take it to the camera shot and comparer 
it against the Celestron 500 5.6 f they had there and see if I still want to 
look at $250 for that one instead of this one. I'm outta money, it should be 
safe to go there now.
