i never minded them that much. The whole trick was getting a shirt
collar that fit and then the tie added no discomfort. However they
have gotten to be a very costly accessory these days. Given a choice
between a shirt and tie, or the baggy printed T shirt, mid calf cargo
shorts and flip flops that pass for acceptable dress...well, I admit
I am torn.
