The article is a bitt spotty but covers a lot of interesting ground.

The references are quite interesting to look at.

One interesting market aspect is standalone market seems to have peaked in 
first time users, with
replacements being as important now. Pixel count wars seem to have become less 
important to users
with even Hasselblad going backwards to a lower pixel count device.
