SD cards are of the worst things I have ever seen storage wise...
OTOH I can also recommand "System Optimizer X 4.7.4.app" (google for this).
It is a nice app that cleans-up the system and resets your permissions
(an unmentioned must after any system update) it's free and didn't
hurt me. Keep in mind to close all apps while running this one and to
restart the mac after it finishes.
As for pixel editing, the basics can be done with Graphic Converter,
one of the best mac applications ever, with me since version 3 or so,
on a mac running system 7.0 with a 66mhz PPC and 64 MB ram. It
canverts anything to something and the other way round.
