Sorry, I wandered off on a tangent.  I associated your mention of  
aquaplaning with what I was taught in the mid-70s about aircraft  
aquaplaning.  It's probably cobblers, but they taught us that an  
aircraft might aquaplane down a (ground)speed of 9√P, where P is the  
tyre pressure.  It's just one of those things that has stuck in my  
head ...
