Quick, simple answer is that when you drop in the second battery, before
screwing the cap on, the battery is making intermittent contact with the
edge of the bottom cover.  This may confuse the electronics of the
camera, causing the beeping.  It should not be confused with battery 
check or any other function of the camera.
