This does not appear to have gotten through the first time:
Short ways into OM-4 production, the factory discovered that the black
battery caps had minute dots of paint on the threads. This caused all
sorts of odd electrical problems in the 4. Part of every OM-4 overhaul
at Olympus was discarding the black battery cap and installing an
unpainted chrome cap. All new 2S came with chrome caps, as did the 3Ti,
4T and Ti. You may look at the threads of the cap with a loupe and say
"those tiny dots of paint won't make any difference" but they do.
So to eliminate all potential known problems up front, you really have
to start with the basics. Silver oxide batteries, the chrome battery cap
(ZC4812) and tight bottom cover screws (because the bottom cover carries
the power to the body casting.) If you get random beeping after that,
you may have problems inside the top cover.
