Actually, buying pre-cut also would work if you only need a few mats.  
By the time you buy gear, even the simplest, and learn what you're  
doing, you've already spent some money. Assuming, of course, the pre- 
cuts give you the opening you want. If they don't, then you have to  
have them custom cut, and that means buying more.
