Yeah I always forget that you guys in the UK get screwed on everything you
buy. I also bought mine more than 10 yrs ago when I was in college and back
then it only cost me $200. I think the current model like mine is about $350
in the USA right now so even here they've gone up a lot. I figured it paid
for itself because in college our professors wanted everything we turned in
to be matted. The framing shops wanted $20 EACH to mat my small (8x10 or
smaller) images and I had about 15 of them to mat. Even accounting for the
fact that I had to buy matboard, I think I only spent slightly more on the
cutter and the materials that first time than the framers would have charged
for the 15 mats I needed.
