NO! NO!
The generic 49-72 mm step up ring will not fit the lens! No, not even
screw on. It's not shallow vs. deep, it's much more basic - the threads
on the back of generic ones are too thick to fit the narrow slit between
the front element mount and the lens threads.
Now you ask, aren't there non Oly ones out there that do fit?. Maybe,
sure, why not, but how do you tell which ones without buying and trying
until, maybe, you find the magic one. But don't sell the one that fits
until you find another.
There have been a few reports of disappointment on the list over the
years from those who have tried. I don't recall any who reported success.
As to lens cap, no special things to consider.
