[OM] E-510 Kit Purchase Update

Subject: [OM] E-510 Kit Purchase Update

My daughter received her E-510 kit from hhgregg this afternoon. After she
purchased it yesterday and returned home she discovered that hhgregg had a
sales ad in the newspaper offering $100 off on a $699 to $1199 purchase. She
took the coupon with her when she went to pick up her camera. The sales clerk
deducted the $100 from her purchase, so she bought the E-510 two lens kit for
$150 off list price.

When my son realized that he could buy the entire two lense kit for $100 more
(including local tax) than the E-510 body only from B&H, Amazon, etc., he went
to hhgregg and purchased the kit. It will be in tomorrow. He thinks that he
might put his surplus lenses on Oboy after he decides whether he wants to keep
the old kit lenses or the new ones. At the time of his order, the company had
63 kits in their local warehouse.

I'm considering making the same purchase before the ad expires tomorrow.
(Zuikoholic relapse looming.)  <g> We (son, daughter and families) are heading
for the Smoky Mountains on June 24th and we need to get familiar with the
cameras before then. (How's that for rationalization?) Actually, we have a
major military reunion and a couple of weddings lined up, starting in
September. We need to get v-e-r-y familiar with the equipment before then.

Had a chance to play with my daughter's camera a bit this evening. The E-510 is
a very nice camera. It is approximately the same size as the E-500, but
sculpted a bit differently and obviously a new design. Most of the controls are
in positions similar to the E-500. A few button controls have been added. The
handgrip seems to be a bit larger. It felt very comfortable in my hands. I had
an extra BLM-1 battery charged up, so we looked at a few of the features. Most
are similar to the E-500. The display is a bit different. She was anxious to
get home and check out her new purchase so I reluctantly surrendered it.
;o)  I'll have a chance to explore the settings after I get my own unit.

BTW--the first thing my daughter said was, "Wow, this camera (with the 14-42mm
zoom) weighs a lot less than my OM-10 with telephoto lens attached." The
40-150mm zoom adds very little more. She is pleasantly surprised. We'll have to
visit the local zoo and let her break it in and see how well it handles the
varying lighting conditions with flora and fauna.
