I wonder why that would be?  Perhaps the IS system needs to know the focal
length to optimize the movement compensation?  At least that is the only
reason I could think of, it can't have anything to do with the f stop as far
as I can see?  And if I am correct, then it would also be possible to supply
the IS system with that information by e.g. typing it in somehow, which
would make it possible to use the legacy glass.

Anyway, I have been thinking about these two different IS approaches, the
body IS and lens IS which I brought up a few days ago.  Someone (Chuck?)
said that if they are independent, they should work together while other
said that would never work.  As far as I can see, these two systems should
be able to work as long as they are independent.  The only thing the body IS
would "see" if an IS lens was attached, is a more stable image falling on
the chip, which it would then stabilize.  There is no way the lens could
confuse the body system, and vice versa, as far as I can see.  I might be
totally wrong of course, after all my degree is not in engineering or
computer sciences...
