Chuck - it maps to the screen, not the whole image.  So you just zoom the
screen/window to the required magnification and paint/select as needed.
Then pan the screen to the next bit...
I have an old Wacom, and it also has a cordless mouse that sits on the same
tablet surface.
I wouldn't be without one either.
