But it's the brand I look for in TV sets, DVD's and video recorders
(when casettes were in). But I would be unlikely to buy any camera not
produced by an old line camera manufacturer. The only exception might
be Sony and only for what was the Minolta line since it still has input
from Minolta.

I consider that Japanese manufacturers as a whole are into digital
gadgetry with the old line manufacturer's DSLRs one of the few products
that has remained (at least relatively) immune. I don't need a camera
produced by the same mindset that generated face recognition processes
or fuzzy logic dish washers and vacuum cleaners.

While out looking for a car recently we chanced to try a drive in a
Honda Civic. I was startled to see a digital speedometer with bright
white 2-3" high digits occupying a prominent position above another
instrument cluster. It was an in-your-face display that turned into a
constant, distracting blur on acceleration or deceleration and never
actually provided the driver with any useful information. After driving
the car for about 5 minutes I totally rejected it on that basis alone.
I didn't care what other amenities it might offer. There's no way I
could live with that for even more than 5 minutes. Who thought that was
a good idea?
