It must be 25 years ago that I visited a Panasonic TV plant in Wales, a
visit arranged courtesy of a Japanese class mate who worked for Matsushita
(the parent) in Japan.  If their policy is the same now (a moot point,
granted) you could not be more wrong!  Not only did they assemble the entire
TV from components rather than sub-assemblies, they also tested every single
component before assembly, on the basis that reliability of the product was
of critical importance, and finding faulty components was much harder at the
end of the production line than at the beginning.

I have had great respect for their products ever since!

I assume that Panny are one of those trading houses that makes nothing
themselves but simply buys in and rebrands from specialist suppliers - a
normal method of business in Japan.
