The painters fought well but were no match for the knitters,
embroiderers and quilters who were just too well equipped. They
stormed the studios, armed to the teeth with needles of all shapes
and sizes. Hog hair brushes flicking gobs of acrylic hardly slowed
their inexorable advance as they invaded the citadel of culture and
hoisted a teddy bear flag over the headquarters. Recalcitrant artists
were securely bound with raffia and forced to admit the dominance of
popular culture. Some wept as they choked on knitted gags and again
as they were paraded in a tumbril in hand-stitched gingham smocks on
their way to the wood shop where they were to be guillotined (with a
nice deckle edge), composted and dug thoroughly into the organic
vegie garden. Such is the fate of the losers in any art/craft
revolutionary struggle.
