I was just thinking the other day that the OM2 i.c.s,  can now easily be 
replaced by substitute
surface mount parts. The opamp and fet pair can be replaced by a low voltage 
cmos input opamp. The
comparator by a low voltage comparator. 

In the OM2 the comparator and opamp are in common package but seperate sm parts 
would actually be
smaller. The current draw would be a bit lower too. These would not be drop in 
replacements but
not impossible to do. 

In the OM2N there is an interlock timer/logic as well, which would be harder to 
replace but could
be just eliminated to make the flash and long exposure behaviour exactly the 
same as an OM2.
