Without claiming to be an artist...Moose and Fernando have understood my
intention completely--when I was playing with the image in Lightroom, I
tried lifting the shadows more, but in the end I decided to keep it like
this for precisely the reasons mentioned, to focus attention on the dog.
And also I wanted to retain some detail in the highlights outside.

And to answer Andrew's question: I have no idea what the name Gollem
stands for. Given that most Belgian beers are on the strong side, it is
certainly possible to generate a significant hangover for the next
morning. But the place does not lend itself to that kind of drunkenness.
People go there to enjoy the great beers, some of which are not
available anywhere else outside the immediate area around the breweries
in Belgium. The most outstanding example is Westvleteren, considered by
many to be the greatest beer in the world, period. It is only sold at
the monastery and by a few small shops who import it themselves--but
importing means sending an employee to the monastery (located near the
Belgian coast, not too far from from the French border) and buying the 2
cases the monks will sell at a time.

Oh yes, Andrew also asked about the lens used--it was the 1.4/35mm Canon
L. Because I like to take this kind of pictures, both my Canon and
Olympus outfits include a fast prime lens like this--in the case of the
Olympus, I have the 1.4/30mm Sigma for this purpose.

Thanks for looking to everyone.
