Thanks for the link, Ali! Just what the doctor ordered for the RAW files
from my A710 IS. Haven't compared it to ACRS for the 5D yet.

The hack firmware add-on adds RAW output capability. Using it was a
pain, though. Use a CRW to DNG converter, then process the DNG. And the
results weren't impressive.

This converter reads the RAW files directly and provides a whole bunch
of processing options, not all of which I've learned yet. However, just
the ability to turn off sharpening is a huge plus. Even at iso 75, there
is sharpening that gives halos and such artifacts to some fine detail in
the JPEGs. It also appears there may be some light noise reduction even
at iso 75 in the JPEGs. Now I can control both functions. My test image
sharpens up MUCH better in PS than what is already done in the JPEGs.

There also may be some added latitude, but I haven't investigated that
yet. The DNG converter only puts out 8 bit, while Rawtherapee does 16
bit TIFFs. If the RAW data is more than 8-bit, that may help.

Also, anybody with a closet Canyon P&S of recent vintage. If you find
that the iso doesn't show in the exif data, or just says "Auto", there
is software to read it where it is hidden in Canyon's unique,
non-standard metadata and write it in the correct place. Works perfectly.

Also-2, the RAW files from hacked Digic II processors don't have exif
data. Exiftools may be used to copy it from the JPEGs to processed TIFF
or PSD files, so they are complete. May be batched.
