Thank you Dan, this solved part of the problem, I had of course left it in 
"control" mode, so after switching to "storage" I am able to see the card 
data again.  But when it is in "control" mode the Viewer does still not 
recognize the camera at all.  I will try your driver suggestion, but that 
will have to wait until later today or tonight.

The camera works fine by the way, and I checked the firmware version using 
the "open card door" method.  As I already had upgraded to v1.4 (the 
latest), and I don't expect Oly to come out with any new versions for that 
camera, I guess it is not really important to get this to work, although I 
would like it to be functioning.
