The Pocket Wizard transmitter in the meter is normally an optional
extra. At the time I bought mine there was a special sale that included
the transmitter. At the time I thought I'd also eventually buy a Pocket
Wizard but the cheap yabe stuff has handled whatever I've needed to do.
But I not only carry spares, I also test them to see what kind of
range they have. They vary widely and some transmitters are extremely
directional. None really meet the advertised spec but some are so
pitiful (10 feet) I've exchanged them. Most will do 60 feet and I have
two that will reach 125 feet.
