I don't know enough physics to answer that but I don't believe that 
would be the case.  If it were, the problem of a mismatch with Gary's 
tests should lessen by focal length increase since telecentricty issues 
grow worse the shorter the focal length.  I don't recall seeing any such 
pattern and any telecentricity issue is further undercut by having the 
long teles missing from the lineup.
