Hi Guys 'N Gals,

Coming out of "read only" mode for a minute.

First to wish those of you who celebrate it, a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Second to offer up an example of some "extreme retouching" of my own.

Personally I only like to get rid of offensive things, i.e. hair in the
eyes, zits, necklace connector in the front of the neck, holes in
clothing, or stains on clothes. Then I typically try to brighten/sharpen
the eyes a bit and if people want that "soft" glow to their pics, I'll
do that also with a little Gaussian Blur on a duplicate layer, then
layer mask to keep the eyes sharp, sometimes nose and mouths as well
(babies). The Gaussian Blur works wonders on baby acne.

Anyhow, occasionally I'll have someone who thinks they know exactly how
their pictures should look (like John's lady who did her own editing on
his pic), and in that instance I'll try to help them achieve the look
they *think* they want. They usually don't want it after they see it. I
will give you links to 3 images, first the original (which will most
likely showcase my lack of photographic skills more than anything else),
then the image how they requested it to look, then the image they ended
up loving and wanting.

Although I had a lot of time invested in *their edit*, I was proud of
her in the end for not succumbing to peer pressure to have the *perfect
smile*. I told her I'd be happy to do the edit she wanted, but that I
thought she was hands down gorgeous and needed no help in the smile
department. I told her I was afraid it just "wouldn't be her". And in
the end, she agreed.

Or here is the original:

Here is the edit with the teeth and complexion she thought she wanted:

Here is the image she chose in the end:

All in all it was a great learning experience for me to see what I could do.
But I don't advocate people making these kinds of major changes to
themselves.

And Moose...Hi backactcha!! :-)
Happy Holidays, everyone!
Candace
