If it is gray market, Nikon USA will not repair it. Nikon, like  
others, does not supply electronic parts to third party repair  
facilities. So that road is closed. I also seriously doubt that low  
estimate of repairs for replacement of the "electronic card".  Seems  
like a bad deal to me.

For just a few bucks more($360) or maybe less than you would spend on  
the broken camera  you could buy a used D100 body from KEH with their  
sterling condition rating and guarantee and LOTS less uncertainty. Or  
a new D40 with kit lens and a $100 credit toward LightRoom from B&H  
for $475.
