Of course you are quite correct. "Politically correct" is a pejorative
invented by conservatives to ridicule the majority when it attempts to
smooth the interactions between people. Unfortunately many people
still chafe under the proscription of the n word, the use of "girls"
for women, and any number of pejoratives for members of other races
and nationalities. About the only time you hear a whine about
political correctness, it is coming from an Archie Bunker type who
just wants to be himself.
