Happy New Year to all, My Christmas was horrendous, quite the worst
since I can remember with all the males in the house having fever and
being bed bound, though thankfully we kept Cai out of hospital.

I have since spent the new year worried that my wife is about to become
seriously ill after I saw her touching raw chicken (and raw pork and
beef) with bare hands when we had our fondue chinoise (meat in a soup -
not bread and cheese) on new years eve and she didn't disinfect
everything afterwards, just wiped them on the serviette, come to think
of it our guests did the same, well as for me coming from the UK thought
that touching raw chicken without full biohazard protection was nothing
short of suicidal so I didn't risk it!

Anyway I did get a new tripod and after considering the advantages of a
gear head - I found not so much information on the hydrostatic ball
heads but what I did find was positive I decided to opt for the lighter
weight hydraulic ball head. I didn't go out much but did manage a couple
of hours walking in just below freezing temperatures this week and the
head was fine, it locks very solid even with the 180F2. The legs are an
absolute joy to use, pull them out to required length and then just
press a button and push them back in. It makes the whole operation very
fast, which means I am much more likely to use it. (Manfroto 458B neotec
and 486RC4 head)

I also got a lowepro slingshot 200 backpack, which fully I tried fully
loaded, it was too much gear and gave me a shoulder ache, but with a
normal amount of lenses I think it will be fine, It is also fast to use,
so hopefully it will encourage me to take shots whereas before I
probably couldn't be bothered with a conventional rucksack.

Sad to see that no one has replied regarding how well the E-3 hold
highlight detail compared to the E-330, still I am in no rush to get an
E-3 just yet.
