Sadly, I can assure this kind of thing is very much real. I got roped
into doing "Follow-Spot" for a local theatre group at the last minute.
They are doing a similar panto based on Robinson Crusoe and the HSE are
very serious about this stuff. It is easier to use pyrotechnics than a
plastic sword. And the Risk Assessment on a bag of flour .... you
wouldn't believe it. As you say, it is all bo**ocks - but sadly it is
also true.
And don't even start on the way they have to cater for any under-16's in
the show (separate "holding areas", chaperoned to & from stage, not
allowed to be in the same room as the adults except on stage). All this
despite the fact that it's a small town, everyone knows everyone else in
the group, and once they set foot outside the building many of the
adults will be giving the kids lifts home. An absolute farce.
I've been joking around for a couple of years about starting up "Jon's
Politically Incorrect Party". With all this nonsense on the rise, it
might just be a viable alternative .... can I count on your vote ?!
Anyone care to stand for "Minister of Photography" ?
