This sounds a bit like the problem I have had with the Tamron 90/2.5 on
digital.
If you get a chance try shooting a plain wall at various apertures and focal
lengths to see what happens with the round patch. It could be related to
light reflecting off the sensor. With my 90/2.5 it is seemed to become
apparent at about f11. Check the following link for some examples:
