You beat me to it, Chris!  But I would add that, while the lens is off, it's
worth applying a fingernail to the edge of the mirror - it may just be held
by some sticky foam, having in mind that the camera has been out of use for
a while.

Try changing the lens, Richard.  Sometimes it's the lens that causes a
problem.
