I think you are right, but it is a bit mysterious. Lots of warnings  
that nothing should block the path between the main flash and the  
slaves, and there is a side window "for remote wireless flash" on the  
unit, but without any warnings in a 125 page manual to orient the  
slave so that the window is toward the master flash. There is also the  
warning not to leave the flashes on for long periods in the slave mode  
because "ambient electric noise such as a static discharge of  
electricity could fire them". The first sounds like infrared and the  
second sounds like it could be radio. I guess they're not tellin".
