No, they don't work as designed on new bodies.  You've forgotten that OM 
lenses have an auto aperture.  Old Pentax and Nikon lenses work on new 
bodies and support the mechanical auto aperture although, in Nikon's 
case it depends on using one of the higher end bodies.
