Firstly for the OT part:
Thanks a lot already for the suggestions so far as to what to see (ans what
not) in the Seattle area!
A thing I forgot to mention, is that my sister lives in Issaquah, rather
than Seattle itself, but that's close enough. Some other specifics:
1) The ferry seems to get mentioned often: I'll make that one rank high on
the list of potential things to do.
2) Going down south to the Oregonian coast was mentioned too, and I
absolutely agree: in the summer of 1994 we travelled extensively in Oregon
(for some 3-4 weeks) as my parents were living in Eugene then. Oregon has
ever since stuck with me as being the most beautiful state (as a whole), and
with Crater Lake ranking as my nr.2 favourite sight in all of the mid-west
that I have seen (with the Grand Canyon at an obvious nr.1 position).
Anyway, as we already travelled extensively in Oregon then, I think we'll
focus on Washington this time.
3) Vancouver doesn't seem to come highly recommended then? It would be cool
to catch a sniff of Canada too though, so perhaps going somewhere else in
Canada (like the smaller place that was recommended) may be a better
idea....
Then for the on-topic part:

to make up my mind as to whether that is worth an additional $70 to me...
However, to take a small side-step: the Metz Mecablitz 58 AF-1 was also
mentioned. I very briefly looked into it, and it doesn't sound bad. Can
anyone tell me the most interesting benefits from considering that flash
over the FL-50 ones? Also, does anyone perhaps know of good deals on that
flash in the USA?
Next, regarding where to buy: I gather ordering it from some store and
having it delivered to my sister is the best option? My father mentioned
that he bought his FL-50 that way, and that it was bought through Amazon,
and that that incurred an additional 8% VAT on top of the advertised price.
Does anyone know if the same applies to orders placed at B&H and/or at
MDIUSA (www.mdiusa.com - Palo Alto / California), and more generally spoken,
does anyone have experiences with the latter company? Also: does anyone know
of a good place for ordering such a flash in the same price range (i.e. +/-
$370 for the FL-50 and +/- $440 for the FL-50R), and then without the
additional 8% VAT?
Finally, the "Oly vs. Metz" decision will come down to a weighed decision
between the pros and cons of both camps, both price-wise, as well as feature
wise... From my quick checks it looks like the Metz is priced in the same
range as the FL-50 (does this still require a specific Oly hot-shoe?). I
hope someone can tell me what the main additional advantages of the Metz
would be over the Oly ones....?
