I am sorry for your loss Iwert. It must be quite an impact to see
something go that fast and furious (no pun intended). We could see the
fire spreading over the building during the day from the building I work
in, which is about a mile and a half away. I noticed some peculiair
things during the day:

- Obviously no sprinklers present in the building. It started as a very
small fire caused by water leakage hitting electricity

- The water from the fire extinguishers does not come high enough to
reach the fire in the building (also visible in the video)

- According to the press (nu.nl) the fire department was waiting for a
larger pump to arrive from Rotterdam

- Already before noon the fire department decided that staying in the
building was too dangerous and the building was effectively given up

- After one side of the building burned out (not much smoke left and the
fire looked to be almost out) the fire spread to the other side of the
building, burning that side out also.

- I was a bit horrified hearing some people cheer on the video as the
building collapsed, I guess not all were overly attached to the building
or the irreplaceable furniture, drawings, books an maquettes inside.

I had already left Delft when the building collapsed. In the evening I
heard over the news that the collection of maquettes was extra large
yesterday since many were returned to the University for an exhibition
which was due within a short while. Even more was lost due to that.

Sorry for the loss again, but I keep wondering about some of my
observations. In hindsight I think that with propper equipment and
actions less damage might have occurred.
