Marc,

Thanks! It makes me happy to see that people like my work and want to look
at it. Those were shot at one of the MANY carnivals that come through Santa
Fe every year during the warm months. Growing up in Indiana's second largest
city, I never saw so many carnivals as I did in the rather small town of
Santa Fe. I think last year there were 6 or 7 carnivals in Santa Fe between
the beginning of spring and the beginning of fall.

I liked to photograph them at night, it seemed to me that the surreal look
of the bright lights in the darkness brought out in the photo the generally
surreal nature of these carnivals. They were always rather empty because few
people could afford the outrageous prices charged to ride the rides, and the
games are all rigged to take your money! The rides at these carnivals cost
around $4 PER PERSON to ride each ride!

This wasn't another example of people being screwed just because they were
in Santa Fe (A rather costly town to live in); I saw the same prices last
summer at a carnival in Fort Wayne when I drove back to Indiana to pick up
my son. He stayed a month with me in New Mexico last summer, and we went to
the annual festival downtown in Ft. Wayne before we left for our trip to New
Mexico. I paid the prices because I could afford it at the time, and because
I hadn't seen my son in months and didn't want to say no to him, but it sure
hurt!

I'm back in Indiana now, and I see my son all the time, but we'll go to the
festival this summer and have an elephant ear and ride some rides, though I
really can't afford it now. My son is 11 yrs old and will not be young much
longer. Of course, I'll take a lot of photos to add to my Carnivals page!

Chris
