John,

Even the alleged damage to film was mostly a red herring, at least  
when you are talking about airports in the civilised world. As for CF  
cards, absolutely no damage. I have passed through Gatwick many  
times, with film and (in the last few years, including this week) CF  
cards, without ever experiencing any problems.
