Steve,
I pulled your 01-039 image into Elements 6.0 and examined it. It appears to
me that the wide variation in lighting, from sky and waterfall to the face
of the bluff and the building, is more than your Kodachrome can capture. I
have never used a polarizer, so I can't comment on its ability to darken the
sky and water so as to better match the shadow areas.
I am no expert in the abilities of other films to handle this situation.
Perhaps someone else will give you the answer.
