Right.  Most of downtown is safe to wander at night.

Chicago is truly a beautiful city.  You should come back when you have 
more time.  Take one of the Chicago Architecture Foundation tours.  See 
the Frank Lloyd Wright buildings.  Enjoy the food, the arts, the 
museums.  Enjoy a theatre scene second to none.

It's my hometown, and one of my favorite places in the world.  One of my 
previous employers decided to move from Northwest Indiana to Norfolk, VA 
years ago, and offered to pay us to relocate along with them.

I said no.  We spent a weekend out there (all-expenses paid, ocean-front 
suite in Virginia Beach) and realized just how much we'd miss Chicago.
