In such a case, the US is probably more heavily taxed than most
socialist countries, since the US spends twice as much per person than
places like Canada and Japan.

The US health care system, by nearly any measure, is the most
expensive on earth. But worse, it has little to show for that spending
-- the US is nowhere near the top of the charts for things like life
expectancy (#44, below Jordan and just ahead of South Korea)
percentage of life lived in ill health (7th worst in the world,
between Poland and the Czech Republic), and prevalence of
undernourishment (about the same as Libya and South Africa).
Besides spending, though, the US leads the world in a few categories,
such as teenage pregnancy (50% higher than runner-up Slovakia),
obesity (26% higher than runner-up Mexico), child maltreatment deaths
(actually, tied with Mexico on this one), and motor vehicle deaths
(58% higher than Germany, famed for the no-speed-limit Autobahn).
But that won't stop the myth that "We're #1!" that politicians and
media are all so willing to chime in with the so-called "health care"
industry. And there's so many people in on the take -- don't expect a
change in administration to easily change the US's slide into third-
world status when so many jobs depend on Americans being unhealthy.
