One thing that struck me about Nubar. He had a workshop he conducted
for professional photographers. These photographers were shooting with
the best cameras and quality of the time, a Hassleblad MF camera and
were obsessed with resolution and quality. But what they had lost was
their own artistic sensitivity. They had perfect photographic images, but
devoid of emotional content.

What Nubar would recommend is they put the MF camera away and
get a simple low res camera and try to capture their emotion on film.
The objective was to photography something that reflected their own
emotion. It is interesting that when they could let go of the obsessive
need for high res quality, and actually tried to reflect their own emotional
sense into their photography, resolution had very little to do with it, and
their creative instincts were able to re-emerge.

His website has not been updated in quite some time:
http://www.nubar.com/ but there is a reference to the workshop.

I have a couple of his books. I know when I look at his images, if I
have am shutdown, the images look boring, but when I am more open,
and sensitive, the images have an emotional impact. I would add a 4th
quality to his "photography, photographer, subject" and add "viewer".
The state of the viewer and the level of engagement of the viewer reflects
the level of mystery captured by the photographer and the sensitivity
of the viewer. Some photos ask the viewer to engage their own emotions,
which is going to reflect things about the viewer also.

Clearly if Ken takes some intimate photos of people, those photos
will have an emotional quality that will have higher value to them
than the perfect high res standard photos of posed ....blah blah blah.
