I think the time period should be longer just to take care of the logistics of
the whole event, but I otherwise agree to the concept of an event.

The problem with weighted scoring is, unless it is based on a very long
history of many events ( for example American football where there are 15
pro, maybe a hundred or two college and many more high school games each
week) it merely reflects the bias of the person doing the weighting. Those
sort of contests have always turned me off.

I like the idea. It sounds like a mass version of Ken's one roll one hour
project. I'm ok with Zone 10 hosting it. (thanks Ken and Instead of a
"winner" let's do it more like a hall of fame. Give each voter a chance to
select up to say 1/4 of the entries to go into the "hall of fame". Those
entries that are on three quarters of the ballots are in. Give each enterant
4 to 8 entries

I think that, if we are limiting it to film only and then posting it to an
electronic medium, we need to discuss how to make the conversion process as
easy and transparent as possible. I know I haven't participated in TOPE
except once because my SS4000 isn't hooked up and it really needs the dust
cleaned out of it. My SCSI card quit working after a computer change and I
haven't replaced it yet. I do have a Wide card but no adaptors) I suspect
that is one of the reasons that TOPE is become heavily digital because some
could argue that the minimal approach to electronic images is a digital
camera.
