A bothy is a mountain hut in this usage, usually, but not exclusively,
an existing building given over as a shelter for the use of mountaineers
and other travellers in the hills. Many are old estate buildings or
former dwellings. The Corrour Hut in the Lairig Ghru is a former deer
watcher's cottage.

Maintenance is carried out by a voluntary association called the Moutain
Bothies Association, who negotiate usage with landowners. Their web site
is www.mountainbothies.org.uk/

That's a good quote, Joel. I was thinking of a few instances in the past
when Bob posted his tale of freezing his butt at the tripod! It's funny,
but when it gets right into you, the first thing that seems to freeze is
your brain. If you stop (not recommended) it's hard to get moving
again. It takes effort to get the signal from brain to nerve to muscle.
I'm convinced that's why a lot of people die; they just can't work out
how to get moving again.

It always makes me laugh when I hear the words 'whiteout' and 'blizzard'
on weather forecasts, talking about conditions on the local motorways or
even some of the roads in Perthshire. They really have no idea.
