I got the M8 a few days before leaving for a 2 1/2 week trip to Poland
and Germany. Like every electronic device, an M8 can fail. In
addition, I knew that it would be cold (in fact, the temperature was
below freezing the whole time) and I did not know how well the M8
batteries would hold up. I also knew that the weather might be bad
(read wet), and while I know M8 owners who are brave enough to let
their camera get soaked in rain or snow, I am not. So I thought that
spending $450 on a mechanical body that does not weigh very much and
takes my M lenses was not a bad idea.

As it was, the M8 performed flawlessly, the batteries coped with the
cold just fine, and I took 1000+ pictures during the trip without any
problems.
