Thanks, Chuck. Yes, Barcelona (500 km north of here) seems to have got
the worst of it. I too have lived through hurricanes (when I lived in
Florida). Here in Alicante what was a bit unusual is that the weather
was dry and quite warm, so all the damage came from wind only, and a
brush/forest fire that burned some houses a bit north of here, near
Benidorm. For us here, it was in the "a bit scary" category, the
northern parts of Spain (and SW France) are in the "a lot scary" mode.
