Well, Joel and I survived the elements and managed to completely alter the
color of my Jeep (it was green) by traversing miles upon miles of muddy
roads. The weather was somewhat pleasant--it made it into the lower 40's by
mid-afternoon. The morning was spent down at the Lake Redrock tailwater
photographing eagles and the wind coming off the water wasn't so warm. I
took 600 pictures of the them and another 200 pictures during the afternoon
of various points of interest. The battery in the E-1's HLD-2 battery grip
never groused until I hit 580 pictures (nearly all RAW). But with a little
warming up, the camera went back to indicating a full battery. (I know from
past experience that 900-1200 RAW images is still within range of that
battery if the temps are normal).

Based on a quick scan from one place I was standing, I estimate that within
1/2 mile of the dam there were probably 50 eagles. Most were perched, but a
half-dozen would venture forth for a lap and then return to the tree.

I'm happy to say that I used absolutely every item (except for the yellow
and green filters) I brought with me. My kit included the E-1, OM-3Ti,
OM-4T, 14-54, 35-80, 24/2.8, 35/2.8, 35/shift, 50/3.5, 100/2.8, 200/4,
300/4.5 and 100-300/4. Oh, rats. I take it back, I didn't use the Vivitar
flash gear nor the tripod. It was hit-and-miss whether I'd score the shot
with the 35/shift, but at the very end I got that taken care of. Four rolls
of film were sacrificed. The OM-4T was equipped with the MD2, but I kept the
3Ti light. My only problem with the MD2 is that it's so quick that if you
happen to blink when the picture is taken you're not sure that you actually
took a picture. Impressive. The 35-80 was hands-down the most used lens
for 35mm, but the 300/4.5 got eagle duty for 90% of the pictures--I used the
Tokina for comparison reasons.

Ken's rule of Lens Lust: No matter how big your biggest lens is, somebody
will come along with a bigger one. One guy showed up with some Canon
Uber-lens big enough that it probably needs its own car. Oh, I'm convinced
of my next tripod-head purchase. That Wimberly head is just way too cool.
How do I convince the CDFO I need it, though?
