I can't be bothered finding out why I can sometimes send to the list
from my gmail account and sometimes not, so I have now subscribed from
here.
Unfortunately or fortunately depending upon your stance I am having to
use a windows laptop at the moment (my wife has hijacked the macbook). I
exported my aperture library as jpegs so that I can look at them on the
laptop, I downloaded irfanview but found it only displayed at a folder
level - not showing me the subfolders so I tried photomesa, which seems
to be the iphoto equivalent on the PC, took a while to catalogue my
library though.

I hear a lot of praise of irfanview so maybe I need to change a default
setting somewhere to display a folder and all its pictures including the
subfolders, so if any one know which one I would appreciate a heads up
as I would like to give it a second chance, otherwise photomesa seems
good (and its free as well)
